Before ‘Click, Add to Cart’: Realities from A First Time Mama

Navigating Christmas shopping for toddlers can be simplified by recognizing two truths: first, children value experiences with parents over toys; second, second-hand items can be equally cherished. Engaging in activities…

If you feel at all overwhelmed with Christmas shopping for your little one, let me share two truths that will bring you more peace before we enter the season of “click, add to cart.”

Truth 1: Your toddler is more interested doing life with YOU than any toy you can buy.

For example, everyday after our breakfast, my toddler and I head outside for some morning sunshine. We played outside for almost two hours this morning before it was time to come inside, and I think my son only played with maybe two toys?

Instead he….

The truth is your toddler will be more interested in doing life with you and exploring the world around them more than any new fancy toy you can buy.

Truth 2: New to them, is still new in their little eyes!

You don’t need to buy all of your child’s christmas gifts brand new. Last year, we found this toddler slide set on facebook marketplace for over half off if we brought it brand new. We powerwashed it, disinfected it thoroughly before Christmas morning. He plays with it almost every morning and afternoon!

Best $25 I spent last year!

On the theme of second-hand treasure finds!

One of the gifts this year for Al from a family member is a Green Toys Transportation Set! She got it off facebook marketplace from a grandma whose grandson barely used it. Looking at the toys you honestly wouldn’t even know they’ve ever been opened.

They were 75% of the original price and they are about to be my son’s new go to toy for years to come!

If you don’t know what the Green Toys are, I linked them for you below. They are so durable and completely washable with a water hose which is right up our alley. I would totally buy them for full price. I think they are worth it… BUT! If you can find a deal secondhand why not?! I promise your two year old doesn’t know the difference!

If you want to have less stress this Christmas season I challenge you to shop second hand for at least one item off your child’s wish list.
